The Chief has to leave

AMD: CEO Hector Ruiz steps down

As seattlepi.nwsource.com reports, the former CEO stepped down from his position as Chief Executive Officer. His successor is the second in command Dirk Meyer.
Several high ranked employees left the company in spring already. Among them Phil Hester, Vijay Sharma and Chris Evenden - the latter one seems to have found a place at Nvidia. Now it is time for Hector Ruiz to clear his desk.

Especially in the processor section AMD is having a hard time since Intel's Core 2 lineup is dominating - desktop and notebook area. AMD's future existence depends of a competitive product. Additionally the acquisition of Ati has been expensive. The new Radeon HD 4800 series is a first step taken and the good price/performance ratio makes the cards attractive to customers.
