Grand Theft Auto - or GTA - is one of the most popular game series of our time and GTA IV is selling very well. So we assembled a gallery that shows the evolution of the game from the first car theft until today.

To get jobs by answering phones is traditional for GTA.
Often you had to accomplish different objectives. Here: Get two caps for a heist.
The camera was far above the ground. The first part didn’t have real 3D effects.
The controls were quite similar in the second part. You saw the characters from above, too.
A new feature: lighting that created a special atmosphere.
The explosions of GTA 2 had been quite good, too.
The missions were similar to those of the first part: You had to spend a lot of time on four wheels.
To get rid of your persecutors, you could either buy some firearms or get new paint for your car.
GTA III was the first part to deliver a 3D environment you could roam at will. The camera switched to 3rd person.
This placard is one of the game’s references to the movie Goodfellas.
Of course hot pursuits are important in GTA III.
But the city had its limits, too – set by the Road Construction Office.
In some missions you had to go on foot.
GTA: Vice City used a similar technical base as GTA III.
But the game is located in a city that reminds of Miami.
