SLI is not working on Intel's reference design

Intel X58 is said to come without SLI support

Author: (Aug 26, 2008) - Actually Intel's new chipset was intended to come with the Nvidia Nforce 200 SLI chip, but Intel's default design doesn't seem to support the chip.

This is what many motherboard producers said, according to Fudzilla. It looks like this could cause some trouble between the two companies, since Intel would like to have software support for the SLI technology while Nvidia wants to sell as much Nforce 200 chips as possible. Therefore the reference design of the X58 motherboards only supports Crossfire although many producers have board with SLI support and the Nforce 200 on their roadmaps.

It's unlikely that Nvidia will develop their own Nehalem chip since Intel won't be too keen on giving away details of the Nehalem technology. As we asked Nvidia they said that they were currently trying to convince partners of the SLI support.
