On Sunday the open Beta of Warhammer - Age of Reckoning was launched. Therefore we deliver a little tuning series.

In the first part of the series we try to give an impression of the hardware requirements. We played the game on a system with a Core 2 Duo X6800 (2.93 GHz), a Geforce 8800 GT (512 MiByte) and 2 GiByte memory. The highest available settings in the game and a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 allowed us to play at about 50 fps in the PvE mode. Unfortunately we couldn't test RvR (big player versus player battles) yet, but we assume that the performance will be reduced to about 50 percent. An appropriate test will follow soon.

After 30 minutes we noticed that the game is memory addicted. 1.7 Gibyte of the 2 GiByte available in our system, are occupied by WAR and we have minimal lags. Video memory on the other hand is not a problem: more than 265 MiByte weren't necessary at any time.

The processor is important for a positive gaming experience. Our Gore 2 Duo X6800 was doing quite well, but as soon as we deactivated one of the cores, the frame rate dropped from 50 to 43 fps on average. Furthermore Warhammer Online is not running fluidly anymore and permanent lags become disturbing very fast. So a dual-core processor is required.

The next part of our tuning article, with additional benchmarks and RvR of course, will be published soon. In our gallery, you can find screenshots and a comparison between the different ranges of visibility.
