The third part of our series deals with the hardware necessary for WAR. We checked graphics cards and processors in a benchmark review. Since Warhammer Online is depending on CPU power, we only checked low-end and older graphics cards. Our tests revealed that WAR at 1,024 x 768 is already running on a Radeon X700 Pro or an Geforce 6600 GT - as long as the processors is strong enough. But if your video card has only 128 MiByte VRAM, you will have to tolerate pop-up textures and loading lags.

For higher resolutions we recommend a graphics card of the same level as a Radeon X1650 XT or a Geforce 7600 GT. If you want to play Warhammer Online at 1,680 x 1,050 with 4x AA and 16:1 AF, we recommend card like a Geforce 7950 GT or a Radeon X1800 XT. For 2,560 x 1,600 even a Gefroce 8800 GT 512 MiByte or a Radeon HD 3870 respectively HD 4670 is enough. To deal with high quality anti aliasing modes like 2 x 2 Supersampling or hybrid mode like 16xS you should at least have a Geforce 8800 GTS 512 MiByte - those modes are not available on Radeon cards though. Instead you should invest spare calculating power into a CFAA mode. To activate the visual improvements, you need to use the tool Nhancer. The CFAA modes of the Radeons on the other hand can be activated in the Catalyst Control Center.

Since Warhammer Online - Age of Reckoning has a good multi-core support you should use a dual-core CPU. In our processor benchmark you can see that the fps in WAR depend on the CPU in use. But a quad-core processor doesn't deliver any benefits compared to an equally clocked dual-core. We deactivated two cores of a Phenom X4 9550 (2.2 GHz) and the framerate was still at 53 pictures per second.
