James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace
The distinctive James Bond theme is followed by the roaring Metro Goldwyn Mayer lion – the intro already invokes the Bond 007 feeling.
Unfortunately we don’t hear the famous “The name’s Bond. James Bond.” even once in the whole demo since it is far too short. The only playable level is set in Siena, Italy, where Bond is chasing an informant. Even on highest difficulty a skilled gamer needs less than 10 minutes to see the end – from a
800 MiB download you actually could expect a little more. But there are though gun fights with huge explosions, weapons typical for 007 like the P99 and Daniel Craig at his best.
James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace
At least his alter ego with the original voice is a graphical success. James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace is based on an upgraded version of the Call of Duty 4 engine that convinces with good textures. Our screenshots were taken at 1,680 x 1,050 with maximal details and 4x TSSAA/16:1 AF. Unfortunately the game has an fps limiter so more than 30 frames per second are not possible – therefore the aiming is a little wobbly.
James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace: The Quicktime Event
James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace: With crosshairs
As gameplay is concerned, the 007 title offers the usual shooter menu with some new ideas: You can for example use a silencer for your weapons and sneak up on your opponents. If you are close enough to one of the enemies, you can press a button to activate a Quicktime Event: Bond knocks out the opponent if you move the crosshairs on the right spot and click your mouse.
James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace: The "Barrel of Death"
James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace
When you are hit the “Barrel of Death” starts to cover your screen and the colors fade into grey. If you receive a final hit, an animation will start and blood starts to run down over your screen. Apropos blood: In Quantum of solace there is only little of the live juice. If you hit an opponent you will instead notice an X on the crosshairs. If you give suppressing fire when you lean around corners, the crosshairs will vanish. But you can also aim manually behind cover – and that’s necessary in the highest difficulty level.
Our conclusion about the demo of James Bond 007 – Quantum of Solace: This is a licensed game that has potential.
