Horror Shooter graphics inspection

Dead Space: System requirements plus quality comparison

The PC version of the Horror Shooter Dead Space is supposed to be released, depending on where you live, in late October or early November. PCGH compares the internal graphics settings and reveals what you can expect from Dead Space in terms of the graphics.

According to the "readme” file of the test version we have, your system has to meet the following requirements to display Dead Space:

- Windows XP (SP2) or Vista
- Processor: CPU with 2.8 gigahertz
- RAM: 1 GiByte for XP and 2 GiByte for Vista
- Graphics card: Geforce 6800 or better (7300, 7600 GS and 8500 don't match the min. requirements) or Ati X1600 or better (X1300, X1300 Pro and HD2400 don't match the min. requirements). The graphics card has to support Shader Model 3.0 and has to have at least 256 MiByte VRAM.
- Hard drive: At least 7.5 GByte free hard drive space for the installation and additional space for savegames.
- The authentication requires an internet connection

In the graphics options dead Space offers predefined Low, Medium and High settings. We took screenshots at a resolution of 1,680 x 1,050 to compare the available quality levels. Since in Dead Space the game is saved at special checkpoints only, we had to change the graphics settings on the fly. Therefore the position of characters and environment can be slightly different on the individual screenshots.

On the next pages you can find the direct comparison of Low versus High Quality in our handy Mouseover pictures. Additionally all the screenshots (Medium Quality included) can be found in the gallery, too.

This game is amazing .. Ive played Doom 3, FEAR was well done too. but DEAD SPACE is like nothing I've ever seen before ..a sci fi horror movie but Im in it. ;oP The way they created the atmosphere with music buildups and the sound/special effects and scene's epic.. The first part where you have to run for safety..sold.. . I read alot of reviews and they're critical.. but this is a video game.. it isn't real and it stirs real feelings its awesome! the 3d maps and huds are perfect..microsoft should take cues from this game for windows 7.. I love how every time the inventory hud is opened its says "your dead".. Negativity;ok its a little clunky but he has gravity boots on!!!

hmmz, Would you say it's scarier than both FEAR and DOOM 3?

So many good titles coming out and some have already come (Stalker CS, Warhead etc).

Good to see how it looks on the pc at a decent resolution, do you guys know how it runs? What engine does it use?

There seems to be a framelock - and it's a selfmade engine from EA.
