Far Cry 2: GPU and CPU benchmarks

Ubisoft's Africa shooter is one of the most anxiously expected games and a technical very interesting title - beside DX10 there is said to be a big benefit for quad-core CPUs. We were able to run a benchmark session with the integrated benchmark tool and an almost final version of the game.

The benchmark tool will be included in the retail version of Far Cry 2, too. It actually is - by far - the best integrated benchmark tool we have seen so far: In a clearly laid out menu you can configure all graphics settings. Users of Vista can also choose between DX9 and DX10. Afterwards you can choose one out of three included scenes or you record your own benchmark sequence in the game. The best thing about it: During the benchmark even the A.I. and physics effects are switched on - two very important features that are missing in most integrated benchmark tools.

For our tests we used the "Ranch Small” scene that runs about one minute and offers multiple explosions, fire effects and a lot of A.I. usage. The basic CPU and graphics cards benchmarks have been completed already.

Is that in Ultra high or very high? On the result screens it says its Very High but in another part it says "...on Ultra High 8800GT could run at 40 fps..." and the Screen said Very High aswell...so Very High means ultra high in all tests? And I figured out that with texture on Medium or Ultra High the image quality is the same, but Ultra High eat all my VRAM, and the game runs at a slide show, with riva tuner saying 600 MB of VRAM usage, when with medium it shows about 300 and the game run smooth (8800GS)

I created this account just to show this.
The 4870 X2 actually does beat out the GTX260 SLi.

If you look at the image URL, you'll see
www.pcgameshardware.com/s...

What you should look at is the image part.

Change the 4 to a 5 and you get this:

Just thought I'd let everyone know in case they check this before building a system. I don't want any misconceptions based on a little image URL mistake.

The results shouldn't be much different if you change it from 4x FSAA to 8x.
