Need for Speed Undercover: Technical details and new cars

Need for Speed Undercover is said to be released around November 20. PCGH gathered all the important data and presents new technical details.

With Need for Speed Undercover wants back to the roots of the Need for Speed series. The Hollywood like action is spiced up with the actress Maggie Q (Mission Impossible 3 and Live Free or Die Hard). She plays a FBI agent and is featured in several video clips.

Undercover: Technical details
Improvements compared to NfS: Pro Street
- A.I. is dynamically reacting to player behavior
- Improved physics and damage model

The physics engine
- Self developed – no middleware
- Simulation of the “real world”; the simulation nevertheless is adjusted for driving pleasure and isn’t as realistic as for example Colin McRae or GTR 2/Evolution.
- Physics simulation for: Drift mechanics, gear shifting and 360 turns
- Physics based Control Mechanism)
- Damage model is a visual element only and doesn’t affect the vehicle behavior very much

Optics:
- Very details car models
- Use of Bloom effects is restrained
- Depth and Movement blur
- Glass (windshields) breaks and is tossed aside

Comparing PC and console version
- Despite the higher resolutions the PC version doesn’t deliver any differences – Cross platform development
- Graphics are the same
- The developers used the technical capabilities of the Xbox 360 for orientation
