DX10.1 features on DX10 hardware?

Far Cry 2: Vague statements on Direct X 10.1

On Friday a report on Fudzilla about Far Cry 2 possibly being a DX10.1 game caused lively discussion.
We interviewed Dominic Guay and Cedric Decelle about the technical aspects of Far Cry 2.

As we reported, the website wants to have learned that Far Cry 2 would be a DX10.1 game. When we visited the developers in Montreal, we interviewed Dominic Guay (Engineering Director) and Cedric Decelle (Lead Programmer) and explicitly asked about DX10.1 support. Here is what we got:
PCGH: Do you take advantage of DirectX 10.1 as well?

Cedric: Not really. We use some features that give us some more performance on DX10 hardware.

Dominic: So we were lucky enough, that the DX10.1 features we wanted to use are also supported on DX10 boards, although the API was not exposed, they were there, so now we are kind of able to get that hardware functionality used even on DX10 boards.
We contacted Ubisoft and asked for clarification. As soon as we get an answer, we will deliver the updated information.

From my understanding you can't reduce rendering pass when AA is used in DX10. Either you add it or you don't

I think that, it's like some DX11 features will be possible to use even on DX10 cards. Those that aren't depended on hardware but only on software.
