Since we already reviewed the Beta 1 of Windows 7 and thus already delivered brief game benchmarks, we decided to run additional tests with more graphics cards and games.

We used the 64 bit version of Windows 7 Beta 1 to check the performance of the Geforces 8800 GT, 8800 GTX, GTX 260-216 and GTX 285 as well as the AMD cards HD 3870, 4850, 4870/1G and 4870 X2. The drivers were the Catalyst 8.12 and the Geforce 181.20.

So which card/driver combination is doing best on windows 7? This question is answered with benchmark results for Crysis Warhead, Fallout 3 (dt.), Far Cry 2, Race Driver Grid and Left 4 Dead (dt.). A comparison between Windows 7 and Windows Vista is under way. And it seems like the Beta 1 of 7 is as fast as Vista in games. Of course there are no final predictions since Windows 7 and the drivers have Beta status only. But during our tests we didn't encounter bigger problems.

We tested the games with refreshed quality settings and widescreen resolutions of at least 1,680 x 1,050 up to 2,560 x 1,600 pixels inclusive FSAA and AF - additional details can be found in the individual benchmark charts.

I think its a bit early. But I would definitely want to see this kind of benchmark when Win7 hits retail.

Are the Warhead results correct?

1650x1050 vs 1920x1200 with 4xAA = higher perf at the higher resolution with AA?
