Furmark is known for stressing and heating up GPUs with the visualization of a furry donut. After a longer break the new version 1.7.0 is released with several improvements.
Furmark 1.6.3 - Extreme stress test for Geforce and Radeon graphics cards. Regardless of the OpenGL 3.0 support by the Catalyst 9.1 and the new Furmark, only the 2.1 render path is used. [Source: view picture gallery]
The new Furmark version 1.6.5 is ready for download. Ozone3D's extreme stress test for graphics cards offers a live feed of the GPU temperature and is one of the first programs that uses OpenGL 3.0 (and version 2.1 as a fallback of course). There is no changelog, according to the developer the new Furmark is supposed to run "better” than the older versions.
New in version 1.7.0 Furmark 1.7.0 now offers the possibility to access data from a running GPU-Z instance. If this tool recognizes the graphics card and is able to read voltages and intensity of current, Furmark can calculate the power consumption of the GPU (not of the complete graphics card). Additional features are an even more intensive Burning Mode, which masks the graphic user interface, a saving option for the settings applied and a separate gauge for individual GPUs in multi GPU systems.
New in version 1.6.5 OpenGL 3.0 is only used as a "container”, as a so called Render-Context - the render jobs don't differ from those of the OpenGL 2.1 path. If you want to test the differences with an OpenGL 3.0 card, you can deactivate OGL 3 with the command line parameter /no_gl3_ctx. Up to now only Nvidia's graphics cards since the Geforce 8 series offer the appropriate support, but current Radeon cards should be supplied with a compatible driver soon. Our colleague and Furmark developer
JegX announces that the string ID, that shows which OpenGL version is supported by the ICD, is faulty and causes crashes so that Furmark, since version 1.6.3, still uses the 2.1 render path for Radeon graphics cards.
We at PC Games Hardware use Furmark for our tests, too. [Source: view picture gallery]
