Geforce graphics cards with new nomenclature

More Nvidia graphics cards with new nomenclature: Geforce GTS 150, GT 130, GT 120 and G 100

Nvidia continues with the renaming of its Geforce graphics cards. The graphics cards models Geforce GTS 150, GT 130, GT 120 and G 100 are new and officially transformed to the current name schema.
Nvidia is struggling with the naming of their current Geforce graphics cards. Little by little new names will be introduced which ought to simplify the nomenclature again. Nvidia confirmed that the new graphics cards GTS 150, GT 130, GT 120 and G 100 will only be available for the OEM market and not for individual purchase.

After the Geforce GTX models, which have been available since nine months now, and the introduction of the Geforce GTS 250 several OEM graphics cards were officially presented lately that also operate under the names of the end customer market. Those graphics cards are the Geforce middleclass and entry-level class models GTS 150, GT 130, GT 120 and G 100.

In the following table we have added the specifications to the new names.

The GTS 150 and the known GTS 250 almost have the same specifications - only the clock speed of the GTS 150 is 100 MHz lower. We really do not know why Nvidia introduced a new name for a card whose "performance number” is considerably lower.

For explanatory purposes:
The Geforce names could be decoded in the following way - for desktop and notebooks which are identified by an M after the number:
• GTX = Enthusiasts
• GTS = Performance
• GT = Mainstream
• G = Entry-level

The number behind specifies the relative performance whereas a card of the enthusiast class should be faster than a performance class card which on the other hand should leave the mainstream and entry-level cards behind.

A rather good and logic formula if on the one hand Nvidia uses it consequently and keeps it for a longer period of time on the other hand.
