Id Software: Doom 4 won't be a sequel and no reboot

What is Id Software planning for Doom 4? According to Todd Hollenshead Doom 4 won't be a sequel to Doom 3 (dt.) and the series won't be rebooted. They are planning "something different” but still want to deliver a Doom game.

There aren't many details about Doom 4 yet. Id Software is still in the phase of looking for qualified personal. But recently Id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead revealed some information. According to him the game won't be a sequel to Doom 3 and neither a reboot of the Doom game series. Doom 3 (dt.) would have been a reboot of the series. Doom 4 is supposed to be "something different”. Not a sequel, not a reboot - possibly something completely new. But Doom fans shouldn't despair. Doom 4 will be a Doom again. So it seems like experiments aren't an option.

Id Software is currently working on several projects: Rage, Doom 4 as well as the further developments of Quake Live and Wolfenstein.

I don't know about that man. Carmack has been long time saying that he doesn't see the PC as a gaming platform anymore, only for online games.

It's good that they gonna make something new. Doom 2 will always be the best, no reason to try and remake it.

Also, from the news it seems it won't be an in-house development, would it?
