Microsoft sells Windows XP for 15 US Dollars to netbook makers

The software giant Microsoft doesn't want to give up on the netbook market shares. The Wall Street Journal wants to have learned that Microsoft charges netbook makers less than 15 US Dollars for a copy of Windows XP Home Edition.

Thus Microsoft's profit margin should be rather small in this deal. Microsoft did not officially comment on the license costs for ULPCs (Ultra Low Cost PCs). Last year Microsoft is said to have charged between 32 and 47 US Dollars depending on the netbook model.

As Windows Vista is regarded, the costs for licenses are said to vary between 50 and 60 US Dollars. For 30 US Dollars the Starter Edition is sold.
