Microsoft wants to grant access to security relevant updates for Windows 7 to everyone - even software pirates.

With this Microsoft doesn't want to support software piracy of course, but the company wants to ensure that the new operating system stays secure and the software pirates are not regarded to be a security risk.
Updates that are not necessary to keep Windows 7 secure will be available to legal copies only. According to TC Magazine Microsoft's
Sam Cooke said that "keeping a machine up to date is one of the first steps in helping ensure that they remain reliable, compatible, and safe from threats when they are online.”
