Asus already offers some AM3 motherboards, but up to now none of them had the Republic of Gamers logo. This is about to change.
The works on an appropriate motherboard with AMD's socket for AM3 CPUs, codename Crosshair III Formula, are already running says plaza.fi. Asus is said to equip the board with an AMD 790FX chipset and a SB750.
The
Crosshair III Formula is said to support CrossfireX and offer an 8+2-phase voltage supply for the CPU. As known from other ROG motherboards, there are Power, Reset and Clear CMOS buttons on the board itself in order to make open test setups, as they are usually used for overclocking experiments, easier to use.
Further technical features are an E-SATA and five SATA ports as well as gigabit LAN connecton. The Crosshair III Formula is supposed to be bundles with a Creative X-Fi sound card for the PCI-Express x1 slot. Until now neither a price nor a release date have been published.
Update May 19, 2009 Asus has officially introduced the Crosshair III Formula. The technical details mentioned above are in accordance with Asus' spec sheet of today. The motherboard is not available yet and prices are still unknown.
