Hot Trends for the E3

E3 2009: Will there be new details about Crysis 2, Half-Life EP3 and Max Payne 3?

On June 2, 2009 the E3 begins and the odds are good that there will be new details about Crysis 2, Half-Life EP3 and Max Payne 3.

Which game will attract the most attention in fall 2009? PC Games Hardware already reported about possible Blockbusters for 2009. But which games will possibly be announced at the E3 that takes place in Los Angels soon and which major titles will be shown in a playable version?

PC Games Hardware took a look into the crystal ball and found the following candidates that are likely to be shown to the public or selected journalists at the E3. Among them are the three mentioned titles Crysis 2, Half-Life 2 EP3 and Max Payne 3.

Crysis 2
Although Crysis 2 hasn't been announced in any way at all, but Crytek and the associated studios just have to be working on a PC project. Since Windows 7 will be released in 2009 and Crytek likes to be the first to introduce new technologies to games, it is not unlikely that the Yerli brothers are already making use of DirectX 11.

Half-Life 2 Episode 3
Another game that has been kept in the closet for far too long is Episode 3 for Half-Life 2. Valve certainly won't announce Half-Life 3, but it is commonly known that Episode 2 hadn't been the end for Half-Life 2. This indicates a third part and the E3 is the perfect platform to announce such a title - after all Left 4 Dead (dt.) isn't as exciting as it had been initially.

Max Payne 3
Max Payne 3 has officially been announced by Rockstar, but more than an artwork hasn't been revealed up to now. And since the game is supposed to hit the markets in fall 2009, it's about time that Rockstar is getting the PR engine running. We are anxious to see if the game can deliver an atmosphere like the one known from Max Payne 2 since the original Max Payne developers, Remedy, aren't involved this time.

More candidates
Other titles that could impress the E3 visitors with in-game material, screenshots and videos: Assassin's Creed (only a teaser has been released up to now and official in-game pictures are still missing), Mass Effect 2 (there are only some Mass Effect 2 Wallpapers - but they are worth seeing though), Battlefield Bad Company 2 (few details, few screenshots: EA is keeping a tight lip about the DirectX 11 capable game), Bioshock 2 ( we would like to see some in-game videos), Modern Warfare 2 (no screenshots up to now, only some teaser videos), Alan Wake (since Duke Nukem Forever got nuked the hottest aspirant for the longest time in development) as well as Need for Speed Shift (the game just looks awesome - hopefully the gameplay matches the graphics). Another hot rumor: Microsoft could add another game to the Games for Windows Live array: Halo 3 is said to be released for Windows PCs. And possible Microsoft will, as more rumors tell us, deal with Duke Nukem Forever, too.

By the way, Blizzard won't be at the E3 so there will certainly be no new details about Diablo 3 or Starcraft 2. The next big wave of details about those games is expected to come in late August at the Blizzcon.

Which game would you like to see at the E3? Use the comments to give your opinion.

Nothing on that list really makes me go crazy. I remember previous E3's titles that i just couldn't wait for, guess i'm getting old or something.

btw, is this E3 going to be full blown or are they still doing that small convention thingy with journalists only?

Duke Nukem Forever: You shouldn't take it off the list yet, there might be some good news after all.
