This is what Crytek has to beat with Crysis 2

Crysis 2: Modders show possible graphics

Although Crysis 2 has been announced already, there haven't been any screenshots besides the Cryengine 3 material. PC Games Hardware presents what modders are already able to achieve with the Cryengine 2.

Of course it's a wild guess how much better Crysis 2 will look than Crysis 1, but Crytek already said that the PC version will have better graphics than we will see on the PS3 and the Xbox 360. But this doesn't reveal if the Cryengine 3 will use any new features that could provide enhanced visual quality.

Since we don't think that Crytek will rest on the laurels gained with Crysis and doesn't improve the graphics, we searched for screenshots of famous or popular Cryengien modders that show what is possible with the Cryengine 2. Most of the following pictures have been taken by using the Editor, custom Maps and/or adjusted graphics settings like time of day modifications or increased screen resolutions that have been downsized afterwards - often such a high level of visual quality is not reached at playable framerates though. But possibly the Cryengine 3 will be able to achieve such graphics running in real-time in Crysis 2.

More pictures can be found in the Crymod Forum. Furthermore you might want to take a look at the article Cryengine 2: Approaching photorealism with perfect time of day simulation? - Update.

What do you think of the screenshots? Do you think that Crytek will be able to best the visual quality of the Cryengine 2 in Crysis 2? Tell us in the comments.

That it will/might achieve is not much of a doubt. The question is will it be able to run smoothly on not a godly system config.

Graphics not concerns me much, i know they will be awesome. I really wait for a game that has a lot of interactivity. That everything in the game world can be tampered with. It could have been awesome of you could shoot and have holes in the leaves, blow up houses and trees to bits (although i saw they took out a tree but i'm almost sure its not physics but more of an animation). More realistic physics that is.
