If or when the Core i7 series will be phased out can only be guessed at the moment, but Intel apparently wants to introduce a Core i7-960 in the fourth quarter of 2009.
Intel Core i7-960: New socket 1366 CPU expected in fourth quarter [Source: view picture gallery]
According to the latest reports Intel is planning to introduce a Core i7-960 processor. The CPU for the socket 1366 will be running at a default clock speed of 3.2 GHz and thus would have the same frequency as the Core i7-965 XE (which is supposed to phase out), but a fixed multiplier. More specifications of the Core i7-960 are a 130W TDP, 8 MiByte L3 cache and an integrated DDR3 interface.
It is expected that the Core i7-960 will change hands for 562 USD. Thus the new processor would
replace the Core i7-950 says tcmagazine.com. Apparently Intel has a tendency to update the product array farther fast at the moment.
