Pure realism with projection systems

Multi-monitoring for simulations: Holodeck possible today?

Big widescreen LCDs are more and more common and even dual operation of displays becomes widely accepted again. PC Games Hardware shows which display systems are possible today.

Every now and then crazy multi-monitoring systems circulate in the internet. In recent times WoW players with their multi-boxing systems caused quite a stir. One user played with 36 WoW accounts on 11 PCs in order to level up his characters as fast as possible.

Huge display arrangements and projectors can be seen when playing simulation games as well. Our German colleagues of PC Games Hardware already reported about the world's best flight simulator - the Simu-Sphere HD system with 120 PCs and 9 video projectors. But multi-monitoring even goes beyond professional military flight simulations. Simulators are also used by marine fleets and in air traffic control. Those simulators enable intricate 360 degree projections and therefore a very realistic experience. Barco und Mersive are two of the more popular simulations. In our gallery we present some of the most exciting simulations and projection systems.

More information about displays and multi-monitoring is available in our article multi-monitor setups.

Haha I hate to be the star trek nerd here, but technically the holodeck converted energy into actual matter, so while this multi-projector setup is a really cool idea and I can't wait to have one, its not quite a holodeck, not even close really.
