Max Payne 3 revisited

Max Payne 3: New engine details, official screenshots and comparison to Max Payne 2

Max Payne 3 is said to brush the Max Payne series up with a new scenario: Sao Paulo instead of New York, a bald head instead of a gel hairstyle and multiplayer instead of single-player only. PC Games Hardware got the details.

The new Max in Max Payne 3 will be different, although Rockstar wants to keep typical elements like the Bullet Time or the addiction to painkillers. The first details had been published by Game Informer and soon scans of the magazine showed up on the internet. Even if some of the Max Payne 3 pictures there are supposed to be artworks they nevertheless give an impression of how the main character, the scenario and the coloring have been changed.

Furthermore Rockstar Games has released the first official screenshots of Max Payne 3 - available in 1,280 x 720 - which can be found in our gallery below. Additionally the developers gave information about the technical base of Max Payne 3. Accordingly the game is based on Rockstar's Rage (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine) and utilizes Natural Motion. With a new particle physics technology the engine is able to deliver "spectacular, highly advanced close-combat" and other features like an intelligent cover system. Moreover Max Payne 3 is said to offer a lot of variety in matters of gameplay - so gamers will probably see a lot of action and different missions.

Rockstar's Rage had been the base for GTA 4 already and pessimists might fear that Max Payne 3 will have similar problems like the PC version of Grand Theft Auto 4 when it is released. But on the other hand it is expected that the developers by now know how to deal with the behavior of the engine and won't need several patches before the performance of Max Payne is brought to an acceptable level.

PC Games Hardware also assembled a comparison between Max Payne 3 and Max Payne 2. We tried to use screenshots that show similar scenes and thus make sense to be compared.

Well you better get used to it (and should have already). Sequels change everything these days, only thing remains is the name. ie - Far Cry 2, Fallout 3...

To understand the violence-classification of the german zensors is a gift, that's seldom granted to mere mortals...
Probably there were just shocked by never-seen-before brutalism of bullet time, but were used to this when part 2 arrived. (titels aren't rechecked later. So there are games banned for "graphic display of violence", were, from todays perspective, the most brutal action would be being forced to look at those graphics)

Agreed. Generation is getting worse and we are getting more used to violence and used-to-be controversy.

Well, for some titles, you can justify piracy i guess
