On June 30, 2009 Microsoft will discontinue the MSN Web Messenger. The Redmond company integrated the service into the Hotmail interface some time ago. In the future this will be the only access of the web based Instant Massaging.
In Microsoft's opinion the advantage for the users is that contact are also shown as online if they are checking mails while being on the move. Up to now one had to log in on MSN Web Messenger additionally.
The desktop version with an installed client application is not affected though. The windows Live Messenger can still be used as usual.
