AMD has officially introduced the Phenom II X4 42 TWKR Black Edition. The limited CPU is said to offer huge performance and capabilities for overclocking attempts. In order to achieve this, the processors are selected and are able to cope with increased voltages resulting in higher clock speeds. The TWKR CPUs are also said to work well with extreme cooling solutions.
AMD will deliver less than 100 processors and those won't be sold on the retail market but given to chosen overclockers. TWKR is a stylized short form for tweaker. The note "not for sale” is imprinted on the heatspreader of each processor. That AMD's Phenom II CPUs are able to reach extreme high clock speeds has been demonstrated in multiple overclocking events and world records.
The rumor mill had been turning for weeks already. Initially it was expected that the TWKR CPUs would be shipped to
certain OEMs. But last week it has been indicated that the processors
would not be hit the markets.
Update: July 1, 2009 The first CPU-Z shots and benchmark results are available at legitreviews.com. The Phenom II X4 42 TWKR Black Edition is said to come running with 2 GHz ex factory.
