Peek behind the curtains: The Evga X58 SLI Micro

Only recently Evga introduced the X58 Micro SLI, a high-end board in micro ATX format. Now the company released a video of how this marvel of technology is created.
Evga's X58 SLI Micro is a micro ATX motherboard that has been developed for Intel's Core i7 processors. Besides the X58 chipset and the ICH10R there are six DDR3 slots on the black PCB. Furthermore Evga has integrated two PCI Express x16 slots, 7.1 HD audio, gigabit LAN, USB 2.0, Firewire and six SATA 2.0 connectors.

But how is this huge amount of high-end technology put on a micro ATX motherboard? Evga delivers the answer to the question with a video - which apparently shouldn't be taken too serious. What do you think of the micro ATX format being used for a high-end motherboard? Use the comments to give your opinion.

I understand what you mean but still room makes a difference. When you have monstrous graphic card that is so big and gets so hot you can boil an egg on it then other components in proximity can pay the price.

However, if you have quality components and you don't overclock you can get by.

I think, you missed my point: Size has nothing to do with heat (at least, as long as the cooler still fits inside), it's the design of the airflow. And a clever designed, small case might actually have the best airflow of all. A spaceous big tower on the other hand is anything but "cool by design". It usually offers the option vor several case fans and contains more openings, than smaller cases - but its also much more dependant on the usage of these.
And the Boards might not seem this much smaller on first glance, but keep in mind, that board width doesn't make any difference, as long as the graphic card length ist still higher. And board height is reduced by about 20%.

I know the case is what cause overheating (thats what I wrote).

People that are buying micro MB's are, mostly, going for a small box. Thats the most popular reason to get a micro.

Say, even if this board performs at same level as regular MB I would still go for regular because 1. I would be getting full/mid tower anyway (more spacious, less heat, and i like it BIG) and 2. It makes everything very tight and hard to maneuver.

Also, did you notice, but their "micro ray" didn't make the board all that less smaller than regular.
