Thermalright VRM R1 and VRM R2 are two heatsinks for AMD's Radeon HD 4870 und HD 4890. Both can optionally be equipped with a fan and both offer different solutions for benefiting from an existent case fan.

The Thermalright VRM R1 and VRM R2 both have a nickel-plated copper base which offers numerous fins in favor of a bigger surface. Two copper 6 mm heatpipes are placed above the contact rail of the base. The thermal pad allows efficient contact of the heatpipes with the Volterra converters of each Radeon HD 4870 and HD 4890. The cooling surface offers a fin construction with 25 aluminum cooling fins which is reminiscent of a Thermalright HR-05. In favor of a better cooling you have the option of attaching an 80 mm fan.
The biggest difference between the VRM R1 and VRM R2 is the orientation of the fin body: With the VRM R2 it is placed lengthwise to the heatpipes, with the VRM R1 crosswise. The latter benefits from a propeller in the side panel, the first from a fan in the front.
