At the presentation of Supreme Commander 2 Chris Taylor, boss of Gas Powered Games, didn't just explain the gameplay enhancements but also the technical improvements. The maps for example are even bigger than before and sometimes offer spectacular terrain and instead of 9 up to 27 Experimentals can deliver heavy firepower. New units like an artillery cannon that fires tanks or heavy infantry directly into the battle or jumping ground units have been integrated, too.

The primary technical enhancements and adjustments are primarily related to the path finding A.I., which had already been quite good in the preview version, and the lighting. Besides Global Illumination the visual appearance is enhanced with Screen Space Ambient Occlusion, Soft Shadows and Unit Self Shadows. The pure mass of particles as well as huge blast waves that interact with any object make the massive battles visually appealing. Dual monitoring is still natively supported and a Freeze'n'Free Cam Mode can be used to take impressive screenshots.

According to Chris Tailor the new multi core optimized engine is running much faster than the old one. During the presentation Supreme Commander 2 was running was running smoothly almost all the time at 720p, regardless of the units of four parties and screen filling explosions. According to the latest information Supreme Commander 2 will be released in 2010.

I hear you Yapa. But is this game being released for Consoles? - thats a shock to me

The inclusion of 27 experimentals really is a stupid idea...

I don't think its that bad. First of all there might be some restrictions, plus it prolly can be disabled if you don't want it.

Also, didn't all the units advance in packs anyway in the first SC? (i don't know much cuz i didnt play it much, my friend is the junky on SupCom).

When this game was released it was ridiculously taxing on CPU,so good to hear they done something about that. However graphics haven't improve that much form Supreme Commando 1 ,still units look like made of Lego

If anything, they look even more square than original lol . but SFX looks awesome.

Anyhow, i hope the game run much faster, because its great to play huge maps with a lot of AI, but after 10 min its just crawling (even with all modifications and AI improvments). Hope they optimize for multi-core like they say they have.

Hmmm being a hardcore Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance player I have read news about the new one which has disappointed me.

I cannot remember everything but there are major changes for the worse... to accommodate consoles.

Also the path finding is much easier on the CPU because units do not use individual path finding, but group path finding which is a more basic method and really sets the game backward rather than forward.

The inclusion of 27 experimentals really is a stupid idea... experimentals are specail because they are few in number and create huge devastation... their supposed to be rare.

Now with so many experimentals you might as well call them units, also they have made the build time much mjuch shorter making them just like a heavy tank etc....
