TES IV: Oblivion, Fallout 3 (dt.) and Divinity 2: Ego Draconis

Gamebryo Engine in visual comparison: Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Divinity 2

The Gamebryo Engine by Emergent Technologies is used for games such as TES IV: Oblivion, Fallout 3 (dt.) as well as Divinity 2: Ego Draconis. PC Games Hardware compares graphics and technology of those Gambryo Engine games.

The commercial Gamebryo Engine was developed by Emergent Game Technologies. The current version Gamebryo 2.6 is not only multithreading-ready but also DirectX 10-ready. Among others the engine offers soft shadows, FP16 HDR as well as Bump and Parallax Occlusion Mapping. The Gamebryo Engine can be upgraded and modified with different middleware, among them is Speedtree by Interactive Data Visualization (tree design), Nvidia's Physx and APEX (physics), Natural Motions Euphoria as well as Illuminated Labs' Beast (illumination). Besides TES IV: Oblivion, Fallout 3 (dt.) and Divinity 2: Ego Draconis the Gamebryo Engine is also used in TES III: Morrowind, the Dark Age of Camelot titles, Empire Earth 1 and 2 as well as Sid Meier's Civilization IV. Interestingly the most popular Gamebryo titles are roleplaying games - the engine seems to be made for RPGs.

Below we compare the graphical progress of the Gamebryo Engine for TES IV: Oblivion (Release March 2006), Fallout 3 (dt.) (Release October 2008) and Divinity 2: Ego Draconis (Release June 2009) on the basis of water, landscape and character design - everything without mods. In our gallery more pictures of the three games (partially with mods) can be found.

Or RTS (Civilization: Revolution). Or tower defense (Defense Grid: The Awakening). Or FPS (Black Shot). Or MMO (Warhammer Online, Requiem Bloodymare). Or racing (Speed Racer). Or snow sports (Ski Racing). Or puzzle (Wheel of Fortune). Or ...
