DirectX is Microsoft's own interface (API) which gives Windows programs access to the hardware. Besides video and audio files this connection is also responsible for the signals of input devices. The latest version of Windows XP has the serial number 9.0c, while Windows Vista is supplied with DirectX 10.1. The SDK already contains the forthcoming API DirectX 11, which will be used for Windows Vista and Windows 7.
