Rumors about AMD's DirectX 11 graphics cards have been around for some time already. But now comparatively realistic specifications and pictures of the Radeon HD 5000 series were unveiled.

Original article: September 10, 2009 New information and pictures of AMD's new generation of graphics cards have been made available: Apparently the website alienbabeltech.com wants to have learned the final specifications of the Radeon HD 5870 and the Radeon HD 5850. Besides already announced features like
Ati Eyefinity, which is said to allow up to three displays with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, performance relevant details have been unveiled. Those seem to be quite realistic.
According to the
report the Radeon HD 5870 has more than two billion transistors on a chip of more than 330 square millimeters and delivers, in combination with the GDDR5 VRA, a bandwidth of more than 150 GByte per second. Thereby the card is said to need only 28 watt in 2D mode and only 190 watt on maximal workload. The HD 5850 and the HD 5870 are said to have the following specifications:

The Radeon HD 5850 and the HD 5870 are said to hit the markets on September 23 for 299 respectively 399 USD. The Radeon HD 5850 X2 will follow in second half of October.
Besides the yet unconfirmed specifications tweakers.com got
new pictures of an alleged Radeon HD 5870. Based on the length of the PCI Express connectors we estimate a overall length of 26 centimeters for the card.
Update: September 11, 2009 Apparently hardware-infos.com has some
new details about AMD's flagship Radeon HD 5870, which are said to be the final specifications. PC Games Hardware compares those specs with the HD 4870 and HD 4890.
