Two in one

DFI Hybrid: P45 and Ion on a single motherboard

DFI strikes a new path and introduced a motherboard with two independent systems. On the one hand the board has a P45 chipset, but on the other hand it also offers a full Ion platform.

The website Tweaktown.com visited DFI in Taiwan where they were shown a special motherboard. The Hybrid offers two platforms. Besides the common P45 chipset features like slots for RAM or plug-in cards the board also offers a full Ion platform.

Both systems are independent and can be used simultaneously. The Ion is located on the lower end of the motherboard while the P45 related components are placed as usually. You can switch between the systems via an external panel. A power supply unit for the P45 platform also powers the Ion. While the P45 platform offers support for DDR2 RAM, the Ion can be equipped with two independent modules.

The price of the Hybrid motherboard is set to about 399 USD and the market introduction is planned for late October or early November. Tweaktown has published a video of the visit in Taiwan.
