Although Crysis has been released almost two years ago, it is still very popular since a lot of mods that increase the visual quality. The most ambitious projects try to restore the superior graphics of the first Cryengine 2 demos.

When Crytek showed the first assets of the Cryengine 2 at the Game Developers Conference 2006 the demo looked much better that Crysis when it was finally released in 2007. Since then modders are trying to restore the original look with different tweaks and modifications.
One of the impressive attempts that have been made to get Crysis look like those first screenshots has been made by Crymod Forum user Hunterbrute. He used the GDC06 Config mod by BaggiBox and added a new Time of Day setting to max out the visual appearance. In our gallery you can find some sample screenshots that also have been published in the

The Cryengine 2 and the Sandbox Editor that has been published with Crysis give modders a broad variety of options to adjust or modify many of the game. PC Games Hardware has already reported about several of the most impressive and promising projects like the
Cyberpunk-Noir City Environment, the
unofficial Crysis 2 fan videos or Crysis
screenshots at 25600 x 16000 pixels. The next generation of the Cryengine has also been demonstrated on some occasions (see:
