HD 5870 Lean & Mean & Shipping Today

AMD presentation attacks Nvidia's Fermi

In a presentation that compares the Ati Radeon HD 5870 and Nvidia's Fermi, AMD holds forth about Nvidia's so called Paper Dragon.
With a presentation, which titled Ati Radeon HD 5870: Lean & Mean - Shipping Today, AMD frets about Nvidia's Fermi architecture that had been announced at the GTC 2009. As usual for such presentations the advantages of one's own product are spotlighted - sometimes even in ludicrous ways.

Especially juicy is the fact that AMD criticizes the "PDF status” of Fermi on almost every slide: While Nvidia has only announced the architecture, the AMD DriectX 11 graphics cards are already on sale.

The presentation has initially been published by Hardocp.com, but you can also find the slides in our gallery below.

What do you think about such incidents? Is a company that won a round in a continuous struggle allowed to savor the victory or should a serious enterprise burry from such ideas? Use the comments to give your opinion.

Nvidia doesnt has to worry about a thing.Their top end hardware like GTX 280 still performing really well, 30% more powerful than 4870 and 30% short on 5870.So Nvidia is now evenly balance in the middle and their drivers are far more superior than crappy ATI once.ATI 5870 is one chip design of 4870x2 and they still couldn't beat GTX 295 in most gameS..............so pity.

Did they forget about the past?
ATI took whole 2 years and 3 generation to catch up with 8800 series and beacasue of console porting those hardware still performing really well ,so nobody have worrying about upgrading thier hardware until next generation comes. Then again ATI totally false here.

If ATI so confident about thier new 5800 series, why do they did such 30 sidles comparison to paper dragon ? Why don't AMD do their childish 30 sidles thing with intel and their cpus ?

AMD should watch what they're saying; this could come back to bite them in the ass if Fermi blows the 5870/5890 out of the water.

The same apply with Nvidia. Why did they present something that was not presentable.

They presented Fermi at a tech conference planned months in advance. If they didn't present anything, that would've been cause for concern, so they were basically compelled to show what they were willing to in advance of launch. They also didn't make any direct comparisons to the competition, probably because they believe Fermi has no competition.

This is very different of course to what AMD is doing in this case, as they're basically shadow boxing with unreleased parts when they already have their hardware in the channel. There should be no need for this kind of underhanded marketing, the fact they are resorting to this kind of tactic just shows they're scared, and from what we've seen about Fermi, that concern is probably justified!
