Nomen est omen: With Painkiller Resurrection the Painkiller series is resurrected. While part one and the add-on Battle out of Hell were made by People can fly and published by Dreamcatcher, the stand-alone add-on Painkiller Overdose was developed by the Mindware Studios - as a fan project initially.
Painkiller Resurrection is now developed by the Austrian Homegrown Games and published by Jowood. In an interview with PC Games Hardware the CEO of the studio, Johann Ertl, revealed several interesting facts about the technical background of Painkiller Resurrection. The Painkiller Engine for example has been upgraded in several places like dynamic lighting, reflections on water and the scripting system. Furthermore he confirmed that the game is a PC exclusive title at the moment although a port to the Xbox 360 would be possible from a technical point of view but due to the physics system such a transition would also be very complex. Ertl also mentioned that the performance benefit delivered by DirectX 11 would be interesting for developers, but that the average target group of Painkiller Resurrection is not having a PC with Windows Vista or 7.
Painkiller Resurrection will be released on October 27, 2009. In our preview gallery you can find several downsized versions of our high-res screenshots that we took at a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels with 4x Sparse Grid Supersampling Anti Aliasing on a Radeon HD 5870.
