AMD: No driver support for DirectX 9 Ati Radeon under Windows 7

AMD stops driver support for Ati Radeon graphics cards which used the API DirectX 9. Under Windows 7 those models are not supported at all. The last official driver is Catalyst 9.8.

AMD announces that Ati Radeon graphics cards with DirectX 9 will not be officially supported under Windows 7 anymore. Bottom line, owners of such cards have to rely on Vista drivers. Furthermore the chip specialist states that WDDM 1.1 under Window 7 won't be supported either.

AMD won't assist in case of any corresponding problems. Driver development for AMD DirectX 9 graphics cards ends with Catalyst 9.8. Affected are all IGP chips (integrated graphics unit) as well.

Affected models: ATI Radeon 9500, ATI Radeon 9550, ATI Radeon 9600, ATI Radeon 9700, ATI Radeon 9800, ATI Radeon X300, ATI Radeon X550, ATI Radeon X600, ATI Radeon X700, ATI Radeon X800, ATI Radeon X850, ATI Radeon X1050, ATI Radeon X1300, ATI Radeon X1550, ATI Radeon X1600, ATI Radeon X1650, ATI Radeon X1800, ATI Radeon X1900, ATI Radeon X1200, ATI Radeon X1250, ATI Radeon X2100 and ATI Radeon Xpress. Ever since i have had my Laptop, ATI X1600 3 yrs, the support by ATI/AMD has been very poor, there website is terrible to navigate through, drivers never installed correctly on a regular basis, CCC comes up with regular errors, there support system never replied to enquiries, just terrible service all round. And now I found out about this the day I upgrade to windows 7, which by the way is far better improvement over Xp.
