Borderlands: High quality shots with 4x SGSSAA

Officially Borderlands does not support Anti aliasing, but with a little tweaking even Supersampling AA is possible. PC Games Hardware shows impressions with 4x SGSSAA running on a HD 5870.

Gearbox's Borderlands divides the gaming community: One fraction loves the Concept Art style with its black edges while the other side doesn't like the graphics effect. Especially the first group might be interested in our high quality screenshots which illustrate Borderlands at its highest possible quality. To take those shots we used a Radeon HD 5870 and ran the game with 4x Sparse Grid Supersampling Anti Aliasing - in order to enable the AA mode it is required to rename the executable file of borderlands into UT3.exe. To increase the sharpness of the pictures the Depth of Field blur is deactivated.

Since the screenshots have originally been taken at 2560 x 1600 pixels before they were downsized to 1680 x 1050 one gets an extraordinary edge smoothing. But the whole thing has a little drawback nevertheless: With those settings applied Borderlands runs with less than 20 fps - optimized Catalyst drivers will possibly correct the Radeon performance soon.

Borderlands: Graphics drawbacks
Although the graphics of Borderlands is well done on first sight, there are some ugly goof-ups. Especially the shadows and occlusion effects annoy with low resolutions and an uneven distribution.
