Tool Time: Self-made water blocks as a hobby

Klutten, one of the moderators in our German forum, and his buddy Lehni have a special hobby: They design and produce water blocks with a self-made CNC machine.

What happens if someone has a lot of ideas for cooling system but is not happy with the products available on the market? Right he starts to make his own designs on a drawing table or with a CAD workstation and "just” builds them. Although this sounds simple, the whole thing actually is a complex process. But Klutten, a moderator of our German forum, says he has so much fun working on the coolers of the LA project that he wouldn't mind if a day had some additional hours.

In his blog at PCGH Extreme (German language) he reports about the individual projects of the team. They follow their motto "Cooling & Constructions - The blog for tinkerers” and realize one idea after the other. Primarily they pay attention to simple designs without flashy ornaments and visible screws. This makes many solutions a lot more complicated, but in the end the final product just looks much better.

In order to give you an impression of what Klutten and Lehni are able to do with their CNC lathe, we have some sample pictures of most interesting projects in our gallery. If you want to know more, take a look at the blog or pay a visit to the water cooling picture thread in our German Forum.

I use to have water cooling in my system. Impressive stuff and awesome hobby that could turn out to a full time job.
