The popular Command & Conquer will apparently have to face a harsh fate. The development studio was cut down in size, the feedback from the community of the currently produced fourth part is not too good and EA's Jon Van Caneghem now told Gamasutra that C&C is supposed to become an online title since that would be the future of the series.

And that's the future Canegham sees for many games. Direct to Consumer strategy is the keyword. The development has been established among the role-playing games over the past years while strategy games are limping behind. Online distribution and online implementation are supposed to open new perspectives for the C&C series.

To fans who don't like the new concept are told by Van Caneghem that many Facebook users are already play Online Strategy games and like them. The goal of the new strategy is to make the C&C series accessible to a broader audience. More information can be found at Gamautra.

I'm not too bothered with the C&C series now. All they've done is just tried to make it look nicer each time they release

Agreed. Since Westewood went down, C&C was not quoite the same. Generals was good game though, the others - meh...

So EA can close the deal on C&C, they would be making it worse anyway.

I play all games, flight sims, arcade shooters, sim shooters, rpg's but I hate strategy games. Never finish one of them in my gaming life so wherever they do to C&C series doesn't bother me.

good for you.

I'm not too bothered with the C&C series now. All they've done is just tried to make it look nicer each time they release, with different twists to the story line. I think the original and Red Alert were the best, even though they look dated. At the end of the day, Stratagy games are much the same - balanced sides, with no one side having something really unique.
