Hexa core magic

Core i9 is out, Core i7-980X is in: 6-core Westmere starting March 2010?

Apparently, Intel has decided to call the first 6-core Westmere Core i7-980x and not Core i9. In addition, the release may be earlier than expected.

The next step in the evolution of desktop CPUs is the six core models from AMD and Intel. Several websites report that Intel accelerated the planned introduction of his Westmere based 6-core processor. It should ship in March 2010, probably around Cebit. First reports said that the introduction should happen until June 2010. Further more, the CPU formerly known as Core i9 now calls Core i7-980X Extreme Edition.

Core i7-980X has six cores together with SMT, 32 nm process and 130 Watts TDP according to a leaked slide from Intel which look authentic. 12 MiB L3, Turbo Boost and socket LGA1366 are mentioned as well. X58 motherboards should be fine for Core i7-980X. Pricing is set somewhere around 999 USD.

I love how everyone in the industry keeps inventing new and confusing mathods of naming things.

Why not call it the i9, so we don't have to stare at the specs just to know that it isn't just a lightly overclocked 960 which we could just OC when we get home?

What happened to the simple days of P1 P2 P3 P4 vs K5 K6 K7 K8?

And don't let me get started with Nvidia

Eh. People started to get it. I mean, most of the people on here know a thing or two about a computer, and nvidia, intel, (and everyone else) knows that when average joe starts to figure out that they aren't really improving, they have to shroud their new product in cosmetic bullshit. The world of technology is, and always will be, designed for the people who make a living off of it; not the people who don't know anything about it.

Hopefully they will run through the whole season in order again to get everyone ready for the new summer season

I am very glad the writers strike is over. Finally we will have some great shows to watch again

Haven't you just confirmed what i was saying???

Yes I have.
And then I forgot a "not"

I disagree with you wholeheartedly though on your viewpoint that a cpu could theoretically run the whole show...

Ummm - I actually stated, that the GPU could run nearly the complete show
(A CPU obviously always can run erverything -thats pracitcally part of the definition-, you just need to bring a lot of time)
