Like many companies MSI presents new products at the Cebit electronics trade show in Hanover. With the R5870 Lightning and the R5770 Hawk the manufacturer wants to continue the success of the Lighting series that has been introduced last year.
The R5870 Lightning has an ex-factory core frequency of 900 MHz, 15-phase voltage converters, two 8-pin PCI Express power connectors, which add up to a maximal power supply of 375 watt and one of the new Twin Frozer II coolers. With those features, the card is supposed to reach core frequencies of more than 1 GHz. Furthermore it is possible to increase and read the voltage via special reading points. For the mainstream market MSI introduced the Hawk series, the cards of which have several features known from the Lighting series, but still fit into the medium price sector.
The new Twin Frozr II cooling solution is introduced at the Cebit, too. In addition to the two fans the Superpipe system with the four internal heatpipes is supposed to deliver cooling capabilities better than common solutions. According to MSI temperatures are reduced by almost 20 percent. And with the PWM fan control it is possible to reduce the noise to an optimal level.
