Graphics in Battlefield 3 beta: the good, the bad and the ugly

Even in Battlefield 3 Beta, you will find objects and effects that leave room for improvement - but in general, this game looks just awesome. We have unpacked our magnifying glass for the tops and flops of the Battlefield graphics and show you some great pictures from the game.

Battlefield 3 aims at Crysis 2 quality and above. The textures are mostly brilliant and effects like smoke and explosions set new standards for video games. It's not easy to spot weaknesses of the engine, but we have also found some points in the game that leave room for improvement. If the programmers fix these, Battlefield 3 will take over the technology crown from Crysis 1/Crysis Crysis 2 pretty sure.

The tops and flops of the graphics are of course only snapshots of the game and you won't see most of the flops in infights. The textures are highly detailed, the view distance is superb. This stresses the PC hardware a lot. Have fun with the pictures in the gallery.

Who has time to look at them? Me & everyone who's ground-pounding! Taking cover behind sandbag walls is going to be a popular thing when you're under fire, plenty of time to get face-to-face with that flat geometry.

Damn, look at those flat-ass sandbags! That's going start being the measure at which I gauge a game's graphical prowess. This is bottom of the rung quality! Color me shocked!

Who takes the title? Crysis 2, that's who.
